A big part of our success is the skilled team we’ve built here at NKP Medical. We believe that the only way to provide our clients with the level of excellence they expect from us is to hire the best possible people.

We provide a lot of services, and one of our best is the custom website designs we offer. Our in-house designers are extremely technically skilled and artistically gifted, which is why our customers can count on them to produce stunning and beautiful designs.

We sat down with Francisco Leyva, one of our senior designers, to talk about his time here at NKP Medical and his approach to designing websites.

Meet Francisco

How long have you been working for NKP? Have you always been a designer?

I’ve been working for NKP for about four years, all of which have been with the Design Department.

What got you interested in website design?

I’ve been designing and using all the Adobe programs since I was 12. I loved to draw at a very young age. Once I figured out how to use a lot of these programs, I started finishing my artwork on the computer and transitioning to making fully digital art.

How did you become interested in web design?

I slowly learned about web design when I began browsing sites on Awwwards [a web design competition] and loved how each site had its own original creative direction. I always found it interesting how many different ways information can be displayed on screen, which drove me to start designing sites myself.

What is your process like?

I look for inspiration by browsing the web. I also spend a lot of time outside looking for design elements found in other successful companies – in billboards, logo designs, fonts, menus, translation signs, maps. Design is all around us, but people barley notice it.

From there, I create a wireframe [draw out what the website is going to look like], look for images that go with the client’s branding, and piece it all together.

Do you use client input when making your designs?

I take it into consideration, but I usually just go with what I’ve found to be most effective. Sometimes clients want things that are a little outdated, so I try to go for the more modern simple look, because everyone views their sites on a mobile device.

The phone is the new television. Because a phone is small, the design has to be sharp and straight to the point to grab the user’s attention. Gimmicky and overly designed websites just don’t have the impact that people think they do.

What is you favorite part of the job?

The creative aspect of it. Every day looks different for me. No website looks the same. It doesn’t get repetitive. Not only do I design websites, I design social media posts, design landing pages, and sometimes help the Updates team with design stuff, so every day looks different for me, which is exciting.
